Ser vs. Estar

English Explanation :

We will begin our review of "Ser" vs. "Estar" - remember both mean "to be" and are used grammatically to express "to be" just like we do in English.  ( I am , you are, he/she is, we are, and they are. However, in Spanish we spice it up a bit and two of expressing " to be" -  "Ser" is generally used for more long lasting descriptions or defining characteristics and "Estar" is used for more temporary states and conditions.

Here are the CONJUGATIONS  and two mnemonics to help you remember when to use each

               Ser

              Yo soy                         eres                      él/ella/usted  es
nosotros  somos      vosotros sois            ellos/ellas/ustedes  son

               Estar

Yo estoy                 estás                                él/ella/usted esta                                                                 nosotros estamos    vosotros  estáis                    ellos/ellas/ustedes están

Here is when/how we use these: REMEMBER  SER- DOCTOR and ESTAR- PLACE
